City Chicks: Classes for the modern day homemaker!

I love taking classes, a fantasy of mine is to get super rich and then spend my days doing nothing but taking classes in everything I've ever wanted to learn!  Until that happens, I'll be taking classes at City Chicks - run by a  good fiend of mine, Heather, City Chicks offers classes for everything including cooking, crafts, cocktails, beauty, and more more more. Check out the upcoming schedule!

"Our ever-changing curriculum of recreational cooking and home economics classes brings innovation, inspiration, and creativity to your routine.  With a focus on farm-fresh ingredients, local experts, and sustainable practices, City Chicks strives to re-establish the relationship between the community and the homemaker."

I took my first class recently and had a blast! I attended the "At home bang-trims, blow-outs, and updos" class with two lovely ladies from Miss Laura's Salon in JP, (my personal salon) Scarlett and Dominique, who walked us through trimming different types of bangs, creating soft waves, simple updo's, and the tools every gal should have at home. Even more importantly they gave us the scoop on salon etiquette and hair myths!

Logo for Crocodile Tears

A little more graphic design! I created a new logo for my friend Keyse's blog, Crocodile Tears, and helped her update her blog layout a bit!

Keyse will also be selling her beautiful jewelry at the 15th Annual JP Craft Fair happening Dec 1st (this Saturday!) from 11-5 at the First Church in Jamaica Plain, 6 Eliot Street!

Beer Labels

My boss asked me to design some labels for some home brew beer he's making with friends. I thought they came out pretty well for a few hours work, and I wanted to share. Apparently the name has a story behind it, but he didn't elaborate.....

Poppytalk Handmade & New Arrows

I am very happy to be a part of the Poppytalk Handmade Market once again, sharing some digital space with other makers of fantastic wares!! It's a great place to do some Holiday Shopping.......

I'm also happy to share a new arrow series - GOLD! Yes, GOLD - you know you love it!!

I found an amazing gold metallic paint that reflects the light beautifully, while still showing a little wood grain. The pics do really do not do them justice - they're gorgeous!!

Bad Cat Portraits: Elliott is Immortalized!

My supremely talented friend, Kevin Willsey, had started making pet portraits as Bad Cat Portaits! Here's my fabulous pencil and acrylic version of Elliott's fuzzy little face!

And here's a pic of Elliott in the flesh - Kev did an amazing job capturing her likeness and personality. I sent him 5-6 pics from different angles, and told hime about her personality. Even though she's going to live forever, I'm really happy to have this beautiful portait of my weird, temper mental, bitchy love-bunny cat.

For more examples, visit Kevin's blog or his shop, Pencilhead.

Goodwill Event

I recently had the pleasure of attending a Blogger Day event at Morgan Memorial Goodwill! We got a 50% coupon and some time to shop, followed by a tour of the facility and a presentation about the kind of services and community assistance that Goodwill provides.

For more a century, Goodwill has been a leading Massachusetts provider of job training, career development, and youth programs that help equip individuals with the tools necessary to sharpen their skills, meet new challenges, and create more rewarding and independent lives.

Job Training and Placement Services, both short- and long-term, help individuals with disabilities and other barriers to self-sufficiency to develop the skills to take advantage of opportunities in the job market and meet the workforce needs of a range of employers. Career Services in Boston Career Link, the one-stop career center operated by Goodwill, gives job seekers – individuals who are looking to advance or change careers – universal access to a broad range of career services.

86 cents of every dollar spent at the thrift stores goes towards these programs! Woot! Let's keep shopping!

My scores - A red velvet blazer and a shiny tuxedo jacket!

Un-Sellable clothes get baled and sold to other industries.

Outlet store in the foreground, sorting facility in the back!

I want everything polka-dot these days, too bad it had weird pirate sleeves.

LOVED this crazy (eighties?) colorblock dress, but sadly it was a no-fit.

November Acquisitions

Two recent acquisitions! Item #1 - a very awesome All Steel steel card catalog, which is actually five separate pieces, given to me by the lovely Keyse. Soon to be home to jewelry, cosmetics, and all kinds of other trinkets! Steel furniture is a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

#2 - A pair of old-ish Romanian bentwood cafe chairs ($10 each!). Not quite as old as my previous Thonet score, (I'm thinking 50s) but they are wicked sturdy and once I get them cleaned up and re-upholstered, they will look amazing when I get my grandfather's table in a few months.

We also hosted a potluck over the weekend with fantastic friends and I wanted to share my quickie table linens, thanks to my trusty Huskylock Serger and Ikea HILDIS and JULITA fabric! Napkins were a cinch - fold 1.5 yards of fabric down to have 12 layers, trim all 4 edges with rotary cutter and quilters ruler, serge with black thread and pull in serged tails with loop turner! (forgot to take pics for a tutorial - I forget with the quick stuff!)
